The Great Suitcase Dilemma

Okay, I know I've had this conversation with everyone but I do believe that when travelling your gear is of the utmost importance!

So it is with this in mind that I ask the vital question - what suitcase should I take?!?

Mind you, it wasn't always this simple, no, in fact, initially I was in a position where I was not even sure I could take a suitcase. I was informed by persons that a suitcase would be difficult to handle when travelling alone and thus I should just take a backpack. But bad, bad repressed memories from year 9 that I can only describe as 'Outward Bound' started surfacing. The image of me lying on my back/backpack held down by the weight while four limbs flailed helpless towards the sky flashed like a sequence you see just before you die.

So I decided a backpack was out.

And then I decided that the best course of action to take would be to get a bright pink suitcase. (To match my blog, and everything else I own, of course) A bright pink suitcase would do wonders for my 'damsel in distress' routine at the airport. And no brazen thief was try to make off with the suitcase because it would be as plain as day that the bright pink suitcase did not in fact belong to him. This was a totally brilliant plan. However, while relating my said brilliant plan to a pal while walking home one day I was laughed at by total strangers walking behind me leading me to question this choice.

So now, not only am I plan-less but I still have not decided what suitcase I want. Although I have narrowed the choice to two options:

I could go with the sturdy suitcase with four wheels that swivels oh so nicely - except that it is heavy and is also a shade of rotting orange. On the other hand I could go with the lighter, more mundanely-coloured and decidedly less expensive suitcase.

I open the floor for any comments you might have about this. Try not to be mean. And keep in mind that I do have to buy it before December.

    Hey Xin :)
Hmmm... One of the things I'm in the market for is definitely swanky luggage. Would you be averse to waiting till you were overseas? How about HK, or SH to find the perfect (adaptable?) suitcase?

Despite my abhorrance of all things pink, I rather like your Pink Suitcase Plan. Just make sure you buy one big enough to fit me in it. :D

Go for a soft case over hard cos if they break - there's no fixing and you have clothes and all sorts of luggage possibly spilling everywhere that it's broken and you only want to pray someone near by has masking tape coming out the wazoo to at least hold it together. The rolly suitcases - very very handy when travelling alone.
Love the pink idea though! (I thought of that with red... lots of people surprisingly must have had the same idea in Hawaii...)
And cos i'm yet to get an id -
